There was some light drizzling at the Jalan Besar Stadium before the start of this crucial fixture that would see SAFFC becoming the first team from Singapore to join the elites in the financial lucrative ACL proper.
Like what PSMS Medan's skipper Elie Aiboy lamented during the pre-match media conference on having to play on the new surface of the stadium, the Sumatrans started the game slowly in trying to adapt themselves on this alien pitch.
Thus, this had allowed the Warriors, who were also playing for first time on the new surface, to lay a siege in the visitors' half.

Defensive lapse in 51st minute allowed Elie Aiboy to slip through a splitting pass that saw Costas Mario Alejandro to level the scores, hence announced the defensive plot of the Warriors that planned for the second half had somehow backfired!!

Ahmad Latiff came close in the 76th minute to claim the advantage when his header missed the target by a few inches wide, following a well-connected cross from the left from Shaiful Esah.
With nothing spectacular happened further that, the match proceed to extra-time, much to the dismay of the 2,462 folks at the ground, who thought they were in for an easy cruise over the domestically struggling Medan side.
Likewise, it was a slow start when the game resumed for the extra-time until livewire Ahmad Latiff scored from an acute angle to give the home team the much-need morale boaster and eventually the winner in the 98th minute.
"Winning or losing is normal in the game, but I'm disappointed to see two of players being sent off and I felt the referee had sided the home side on a few occasions." said PSMS Medan coach Liestiadi Lo after the match.

"I'm satisfied with the team's play" said SAFFC's coach Richard Bok when he met the media inside the FAS boardroom.
"It's gonna be tough (in the group stages), as one is the K-League champions (Suwon Samsung Bluewings), the other is the J-League champions (Kashima Antlers) and also Shanghai Shenhua from China.

Well done SAFFC, hope they can do the region proud.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to yourself covering their progress Pohui.
haha..locally yes, but need a sponsor to fly me to their away fixtures :P
ReplyDeleteGreat results SAFFC and job well done for qualfying for ACL. But looking at their group opponents, I hate to say this but the reality is they might get thumb but if our local players can learn from these experience, learning the hard way might not be bad afterall.
ReplyDeleteGood Luck SAFFC.
Update your team’s website Mr.Bok
ReplyDeleteAs a first representative of S-league in ACL.
your PR management is such a shame!
The Chinese, Japanese, Korean footballs fans will be checking out
your website, especially their own countrymen playing in your club.
and all you have is last year’s stats and cheerleader’s achievement to show ?
it’s already 1 week from S-League and 2 weeks+ to your first group match in ACL.
Don’t shame us…even before the match start.

* My intention was for this message to reach Mr.Bok and other S-League team, obviously I can't sent email to them direct since they don't even managed their website!!
Shame!

les… no time is not an excuse.
(I’m sure Mr.Bok will have no time to update the website,
and he will have to time to clean the dressing room either)
here they are complaining not enough Singaporean support their team during matches.
they blame it on the mainstream media sometimes.
but in the age of the internet where you can bypass the mainstream media to reach out to the fans directly.
no time is not an excuse.
it’s mere outlooking the potential self-marketing instead of being spoon-feed.
it’s so amateurish for a team playing in S-League and more so in ACL.
it’s just show that they are not interested in reaching out to the heartland football fans especially attracting the new ones with their success.
I get the impression that they are contented with just the manufactured loyal fans and drummers.
if that’s so, yes, they shouldn’t waste their time updating the website.
player profile for the key player will be interesting.
especially so for Therdsak Chaiman, who have past record with Shanghai Shenhua!
(FYI, he’s responsible for eliminating Shanghai Shenhua from 2003 ACL, sadly I read this from the Chinese media, rather than local sports news)
