Weeks of building up leading to the inaugural NexLions Cup must have whet the appetite of football fans.
With the array of talents to be showcased over this next weekend (14,16th December), local fans are expected to see many of the up-and-coming European footballers pipped alongside with some of the finest Singapore youth players.
One such player being singled out is Manchester United's 18-year-old Chilean striker Angelo Jose Henriquez.
"He’s very quick and a good finisher," said Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson of the Santiago-born forward, who is the youngest member of Red Devils' first team squad, in the tournament press release made know to the media.
"He's strong and with great shoulders on him for a boy of 18. Angelo has made a tremendous impact on the game in his short career so far.
"His pace is a great asset and he reads the game really well for someone of such a young age." commented Sir Alex on Henriquez.
Not to be outdone by their BPL arch-rivals, Merseyside powerhouse Liverpool also named a squad that boasted the likes of free-scoring forwards Samed Yesil and Adam Morgan, who have both played for Brendan Rodgers' first team season in the Europa League.
Relishing a chance to be part of the quadrangular event, Liverpool's Academy Manager Frank McParland shown his appreciation.
Said McParland:"The NexLions Cup presents a great opportunity for our young players to play against some of the world's most promising players and gives us the opportunity to visit our fans in Singapore. We look forward to seeing you in Singapore soon."
Echoed the same sentiments with his colleague, newly-appointed Liverpool reserve team head coach Alex Inglethorpe, who will be travelling with the squad, added:"Opportunities for a young football player to travel to a wonderful country to play against elite International opposition don't come around very often.
"As an Academy we are proud to have been invited to such a prestigious festival of football and are looking forward to learning from the experience."
Both Manchester United and Liverpool will face Sporting Lisbon and hosts Singapore respectively on the first day (14th of December) of the tournament at the Jalan Besar Stadium.
