[Event] Cubs to take on European giants at inaugural NexLions Cup

In order to enable more local young footballers to expose to a higher level of the game, the Football Association of Singapore (FAS) and Kirkwall Sports Pte Ltd, who are exclusive partners of Manchester United Soccer Schools and Sporting Lisbon Academy in South East Asia, will be co-organize the “NexLions Cup” this coming December at the Jalan Besar Stadium (JBS).

According to the media release made known to the media, the quadrangular will be held from 14th to 16th December featuring youth players from European powerhouses such as Manchester United, Liverpool FC and Sporting Lisbon.

A press conference-cum-draw ceremony was held this afternoon at the FAS headquarters at JBS, the results of the draw are as follow:-
  • Manchester United vs Sporting Lisbon
  • Liverpool vs Singapore Selection
Explaining the objective of having such a tournament, Mr Abdur Raheem (pictured above extreme right), the Executive Director of Kirkwall Sports said:“It is of utmost importance that we continue to help develop footballers from a young age and give them the chance to showcase their talents in a competitive arena.

“The NexLions Cup is the perfect platform for the Singapore youngsters to put on a show while the European teams will definitely put up a fight and show just why European football is at a high standard.” he added.

Showing his support to this new initiative, FAS president Mr Zainuddin Nordin (pictured above center) said:”With the NexLions Cup starting this year, it allows the youngsters another global platform to bring their ‘A’ game forward and experience what it is like to be up against quality opposition like Liverpool, Manchester United and Sporting Lisbon.”

  • 14 Dec 2012 - Match 1 (6.15pm)
  • 14 Dec 2012 - Match 2 (8.45pm)
  • 16 Dec 2012 - 3rd Placing Match (5.15pm)
  • 16 Dec 2012 - Final (7.45pm)

  1. I was going to say that this was the first time I heard about the NexLions Cup, but then I read your post and I realized it was a new cup and I think it is very good idea and a great opportunity for young players to show what they got
