Skipper Hariss Harun (14) is a center-back these days

Beating Malaysia is sweet, although we should have been more aggressive in the match that saw us beat the auld enemy 2-1 at Kallang last evening (26/7).

The lack of aggressiveness was what I told almost everyone I bumped onto during and after the game which also saw national interim coach Nazri Nasir maintained his 100% record against Malaysia.

Like I told a friend, I was wondering if Hariss Harun is being utilized more as the center-back these days that saw our lack of commanding presence in the middle of the park?

As we witnessed how the Harimau Malaya's more swift and intense movements were all over the Lions' domain at some parts of the game that saw Ikhsan Fandi was reduced to an isolated figure up front on a few occasions?

And we had Lady Luck to thank when the Malaysians did not take their chance and even struck the crossbar from the spot-kick attempt before their equalizer in the 57th minute through Liridon Krasniqi to bring some cheers to their supporters.

Nonetheless, like said, a win over Malaysia is always a sweet one especially pleasing for "superman" Hassan Sunny whose heroics last night helped to exorcise the ghost of that ill-fated AFF Suzuki Cup match against the same opponents at the same venue years ago.

Still, we need that commanding figure in the midfield to like what Nazri once did for the Lions to dictate the game momentum to our favour.

  1. Anu is the initial automatic choice as CDM but since he has pulled out from the squad...can either opt for 4 man defence with irfan n safuwan as CB or flat 3 with irfan, safuwan and amirul so as to shift hariss back to CDM as all can see that putting zulfadmi there is suicidal.

Btw, i also think that anu would be given a stern test if he is to play CDM in this series which would further confirm if he will be the permanent CDM for the national team shd hariss be deployed as CB for the rest of his international career.

  2. Have to say that Hariss struggled in midfield at the start of the Suzuki Cup. Wonder if Song will be a good option as Zulfahmi and Shahdan are too similar in profile.

  3. My observation is I think we don't have a choice - we need Hariss to hold the fort because I saw he was helping to clean up all the mess, and Irfan Fandi was all over the shop. Somehow when Irfan plays for the Lions, he seems to lack confidence vs playing for his club. Ikhsan Fandi was solid once again, on his own upfront and the big question now is, who can compete with Ikhsan for the no.9? What if he is out, and can't play. Who will be scoring the goal? Goals win game. But Nazri did a good job!
