Isn't it sad.
Just as we thought, that "thing" is well under controlled, the sad fact is that, that "thing" is still alive and kicking.
The "thing" caused quite a stir way back in the early 90's, when CPIB hauled up the disgraced Michal Vana, thus that triggered the probe into the "thing", which eventually ended heartthrob Abbas Saad's career in this part of the world.
Other than the Lebanese-born Aussie, big numbers of footballers on both sides of the causeway lost their livelihood due to that "thing".
The S-League also had some brushes with that "thing".
In the debut season, former national midfielder Zul "three-pointer" Kartoyoho and three of his Balestier Central team mates were struck off the list for their involvement, years later, two foreign players in the league, Mirko Jurilj and Lutz Pfannenstiel were convicted for their involvement.
Current SAFFC's players Noor Ali and Ali Imran Lomri almost lost their job for their near involvement two years ago before being reprimanded by the League authority with lengthy ban.
Suddenly, a local daily broke the news with national and Geylang's custodian Shahril Jantan (pictured on the left) and Paya Lebar Puggol's keeper Zainal Zainolabidin were being approached to join the "thing".
While intensive investigation is well underway, doubts had already raised again.
WHY??
Why? Despite the heeding call, the talks and warning from the relevant authorities to come forward immediately to expose any potential scam, the involved parties are slow to react?
Why? Despite legalised the football betting, these "manipulators" are still able to operate from behind?
Was it the fear for their safely and those of their loves one for the first question?
At the meantime, there's not answer to the second question, however, sad to note that the legalised betting might have failed its role in help eliminating the "thing".
The exposed of the "thing" that resurfaced on the ground had caused quite a panic, as the football fraternity are expected more new stories spinning out of the press.
I feel that all the preventive measurements are already well in place, perhaps the necessary assurance from the authorities to the "targeted" players is what that this lacking at this moment (or are they not?? please correct me, thanks).
Constant living in fear will never help, these "targeted" players should know that and glad that since the "thing" already made known, let's hope with all out effort to stop it from multiplying.
After all, it is the players who are at the losing end if the fans once again deserted them because of the "thing".
