Cheetahs Finally Off The Hook...

Chupe is the hero of the night for Hougang On the final week before the League adjourn for another recess due to the RHB Singapore Cup and the SEA Games, Hougang United finally broke their win-less duck by notching one-nil win over Geylang International at home. The solitary goal in the 72nd minute by Equatoguinean striker Francisco Salvador Elá, popularly known as Chupe, was all the Cheetahs needed to seal the all three points in the match that saw the visiting Eagles dominated much of the proceedings, especially in the first half when the visitors were having much of the possession in play but failed to take their chances well. It was something acknowledged by Eagles' coach Jorg Steinebrunner when assessing his team performance of the evening. Close shave for Hougang's 'keeper Ahmadulhaq Che Omar  Said the German coach:"We should have done enough in the first forty-five, if not for them (Hougang) who parked a bus or a double-decker in the box." in

Steinebrunner remains cautious despite stellar Geylang casting

Coach Steinebrunner is cautious Having assembled a stellar cast for the upcoming season, it is not unusual to say Geylang International are embarking their way back to the glory days when they once ruled the land back in the late 1980s till early 1990s, clinched the S.League titles in 1996 and 2001 with Singapore Cup in 2009 as their most recent taste of glory (as Geylang United). "It's still early days," said a cautious Geylang coach Jorg Steinebrunner when such suggestion was made to him. "The whole idea now is to move away from playing long ball like we did last season and keep the ball with more mobility in our game. "And that is one of the reasons we signed players like (Tatsuro) Inui, Bruno (Castanheira) and (Jozef) Kaplan, who are able to give the speed and advantage during one-on-one situation." added the German coach. Bruno Castanheira shields the ball Beside the mentioned trio, the Bedok-based club also recruited local players like

Salim:"Every game now as a Cup game"

Salim Moin taking charge of Stags this season Just barely a week before their first competitive game of the season - against South China AA of Hong Kong in the continent's elite club tournament - Asian Champions League (ACL) playoff on the 2nd of February, the preparation of the reigning S.League champions Tampines Rovers is far from impressive. Except for the clean sheet they maintained in their recent Cambodian trip that saw them notched two wins over their opponents in Phnom Penh, the Stags found themselves struggling to pull their act together on the home soil where they succumbed to a 1-0 loss to Geylang International in a friendly played this afternoon at Bedok Stadium. The lack of business acumen or The Red Tape?

The building now is a learning hub (I think) Each time whenever I walked past the building that used to be the clubhouse of Geylang United Football Club, I can't help but have that sense of pity and wonder if the Eagles could have made a good use of this one-time cinema located at Bedok Central. After all, being a CLUB itself that a clubhouse would be something of a necessity, and the inaugural S.League champions used to have that envious look from the rest of the clubs to boast a clubhouse of such a scale. However, since the expire of the last tenancy agreement somewhere end of last year, the size of the Eagles clubhouse drastically downsized to a unit located at the second level of the nearby Bedok Sports & Fitness Centre, next to their home ground, Bedok Stadium. An ideal spot for any  event launch or promotion While the existing clubhouse still provides the fruit machine, pool and game facilities, but it will not longer have the luxury of spaces to maximize the

The set might appeared to look "dark" as I stick to 1/400 for all these shots with the usual "default JBS setting". Harimau Muda's Wan Zack Haikal proved to be why he could the hot contender for the "Young Player of the Year" with his industrious rate on the flanks and duly rewarded with his opener (and a yellow too) before the end of the first half. Thought of Wisdom by Yazid...

Yazid was the MOM for the 2009 Singapore Cup "It's really not how much you're getting paid, but how you manage your money..." Geylang United goalkeeper Yazid Yasin.  The former Lion City Cup-winning custodian recently saw himself being embroiled in a "that thing" case that saw two of his former teammates jailed. Many lauded the action taken by the Eagles skipper after he was approached by reported straight to the relevant authorities which led to the conviction of Koreans Kim Jae Hong and Jeong Byung Euk. While many seem to be fixated on the nagging scourge that has been bothering the whole setup, those words by the 32-year-old appeared to give us a view from another perspective. The importance of managing your money probably should be something applicable to everyone, especially of that of those professional athletes whose career lifespan is short. While efforts have been made to educate players, and officials alike about the danger of

Geylang Utd's not-exactly "U-TURN"

2012 Geylang United HOME kit Having heard the outcry over the decision to change the traditional green home strip to a maroon one, Geylang United decided to revert, although not entirely, the unpopular choice of colour. Instead, the maroon kit will become the Eagles' away jersey with a mainly white-coloured based uniform (pictured above, depending on your browser settings) be the choice of the home outfit for the new season. BACK DOWN FROM THE BOARD In a media statement issued today, the club said: "After gathered response and feedback from the fans, the club management has decided to make the necessary changes in our jersey colour arrangement. "With approval sought from FAS (Football Association of Singapore), the maroon kit will become the away outfit, while the white/green kit will be our 2012 home jersey choice of colour." The Eagles added new home kit will be mainly white in colour, with a stripe of green across the chest to give the jersey a more &

Uncle Ang says Goodbye to his beloved Eagles...

According to the media release issued by the Football Association of Singapore, the long-time veteran in the local football scene will hand over the reins to former national skipper Leong Kok Fann. "I am privileged to have served as the President and Chairman of Geylang International and Geylang United respectively and I am proud of our club's record in both the S.League and its predecessor league, the FAS Premier League." said Mr Ang in the statement issued in the late evening. "While I am sad to leave the club, I do believe the time is now right for a fresh person to take the reins. I am confident th
