Bitter-Sweet Park

The SMS update did the trick again as I was informed hours ago that Woodlands Wellington's Korean star Park Tae Won had just joined the exclusive S.League centenary club (for whoever score 100 goals in their S.League career). At least, Park will be guaranteed a moment of appreciation in the annual S.League Awards Nite, although the damper of the night was that his team lost to Gombak. Anyway, Congrats to you, Park and at the meantime, it's confirmed that the much-anticipated showdown at the Floating Platform for the RHB Singapore Cup Final WILL NOT go ahead as the league authority had decided to stage at the usual venue - Jalan Besar Stadium on 21st November.

S.League Awards Night 2007

Was at the S.League Awards Night 2007 moments ago and some snapshots and thoughts... THE RED CARPET MOMENTS I was stumbled on how this host** interacted with her guests at the red carpet (pictured above with SAFFC coach Richard Bok who was on the left). First, she doesn’t know who Richard Bok is, or what was he here for (being nominated and retained the "Coach of the Year" Award). (** It was after a while I came to know who she is - a DJ from a local radio station, as I am not frequent radio listener that I don't know who she was) Next, she don't know the linkage of green colour with Geylang United when she was talking to Lim Tong Hai, who had to painstakingly tell her it is their COLOUR! I think the only persons she was aware of were those Mediacorp personalities (pictured above the "Muttons" from 987FM) Here she was with FAS president A/P Ho Peng Kee (pictured above). But Sengkang Punggol's goalkeeper Amos Boon (pictured above with these two ladies) wh...

S.League Awards Nite 2006

Went to the awards nite presentation held at the Mediacorp TV threater, located at the Caldecott Broadcast Centre (which in years to come is going to shift to the western part of the island but that's not the issue rather strange enough, got at least three acquaintances reminded me about that!! ). Invited guests (from match officials to the players, VIPs to the fans) making their way to the theater. The setting inside the theater (actually more or less the same like last year's) 987's "Muttons" - Justin Ang and Vernon A were the hosts of the night. Mr Zainuddin Nordin, the Mayor of Central Singapore District, the Vice-President of FAS (and most importantly, he is my MP) gave the opening speech. It seems that some of the award presenters looked nervous and unprepared for the event. (like here we have the lovely Jade Seah being one of them, kept staring at the "cards") This "Botak" here (Gurmit Singh) gave a rather unimpressive performance (shoul...

S LEAGUE AWARDS NITE 2005

(Picture on the left, M C of the night Bernand Lim warming up the audience prior the start of the night.) Was one of the privileged few to attend this gala event, which was held at the Mediacorp TV Theater. Noh Alam Shah was named the "Player of the Year", while his striking partner Mirko Grabovac took the top scorer award as well as the "Player of the Decade" award. Pin-up boy Issey Nakajima of Albirex Niigata wrapped up the "Young Player of the Year" award. Pretty innovative in the way the organiser announced the list of nominees, especially, the "Coach of the Year" awards, which drew laughter from the house. In which, the five nominees (Ie: Young Lions' Fandi Ahmad, Albirex's Ichiro Otsuka, SAFFC's Ki m Poulsen, Woodland's Karim Bencherifa and eventual winner Tampines' Vorawan Chitavanich) were being portrayed as a group of school kids in a classroom und er the mercy of the "teacher" (pictured on the right)...
