I was late for the game anyway when the game, officiated by Abdul Malik Bashir who was recently praised by the AFC President Mohamed Bin Hamman , was delayed for 20 minutes or so due to the downpour. It was a goal-less draw at the end of first half and when the second half resumed I decided to position myself at the back-of-the-net of Balestier's goal and saw the "soft" goal scored by Geylang's skipper Noor Ali. Got to know there's this movie about Singapore football "Kallang Roar the Movie" that is gonna hit the town soon. Although it fitted in nicely, it's bit tight, however just right (some players would prefer a little more room for the feet, rather than being tight-fitting). SAFFC's warming up at their designated half Kitchee's warming up before the game (does the floodlights match up to 2000lux?) Let's face it, Kitchee (from Hong Kong) were never into the game when they faced SAFFC in this AFC Cup opener. There were no "A-sign" at AFC Cup matches It's not wondering that they ate the humble pie by saying they would be happy if they walked away from Jalan Besar with ONE point at the pre-match media session (I was told this was NOT their best XI due to import restriction for this tournament). One shall never flare up in the game especially to those helping out in the game. Above-mentioned clip is a highlight of the Copa Libertadores fixture between Flamengo of Brazil and Nacional of Uruguay. Good Job by the referee.. Kudos!!!

Was only aware of this AFC U16 qualifiers when a guy drop me a comment on one of the blog entries to enquire TV schedule of it.. (Thanks Barry :D) Was aware that today is the last day of the qualifiers, I decided to head down to Jalan Besar for a double-header. 5pm - East Timor vs Australia 7pm - DPRK vs Malaysia Much to my astonish.. the Timorese squad did not turn up for the qualifiers at all, so the 5pm game was scrapped!! (@#*&!!...) Anyway, hang around Jalan Besar area to kill my time before went back to the ground. Match pictures... (Above) Both teams having their warming up prior the start of the game, I would say the Koreans were more well-organized in their work outs. (Above) as the match went on.. it's not hard to tell which is the better of the two, as the Koreans were well-drilled in all aspects with the striped army struggled to keep pace.. I'm not sure why lately some Malaysian football fans came to this Singapore football blog. Only to realize they googled " Mokhtar Dahari " and therefore was linked to this blog. Anyway, for you Malaysian soccer fans outhere, here's something for you guys - a clip from "Youtube" 1986 - a year we, Singaporeans, rather forget.. with legendary Mokhtar Dahari scoring one of the most well-documented goals the Kallang crowds ever seen (against us , of course).

My journey to this event began with my early dinner - Nasi Briyani Ayam at the eatery, which is a short distance away from Kallang MRT station. As mentioned before, prior to the construction of the circle line, fans would "cut their way" through the old Kallang airport building (i.e.: the PA) Crossed the Nicoll highway using this bridge as shown here before reaching the destination. Still remember those "Fast and Furious" stunts along Nicoll Highway during the Malaysia Cup days? Not quite like the heydays of the 70s where these guys would pack the stands with their pulling power (a snapshot of the match between the Singapore veterans vs their Malaysian counterparts). Fans grabbing any opportunity to snap a few pictures of themselves as proof that they were there (including yours truly again, many thanks to Mr Henry Chua for taking that "dot-of-me" foto and the fan who helped to take the one with the ground as the backdrop of it.)
