Tigers took their chances well in the "PINBALL" battle against Cheetahs

Balestier Khalsa claimed all three points in the newly-christened “Pinball Derby” with a 3-1 rout over Hougang United at the Toa Payoh Stadium. Following the result, the visiting Cheetahs saw themselves engulfed further deep at near bottom of the standings on eleventh position, while the hosting Tigers boasted their positioning that propelled them to fourth after 19 matches played. Unlike the intensity shown in the previous Cup match played on the same ground between the two sides weeks ago, it was a tepid affair with limited sparks in this league fixture that saw misguided exchanges and wasted opportunities dominated much of the proceedings. Therefore, whoever took their chances well would see them gain the much-needed advantage over the other party, which in this case explained why Balestier adhered to that principle and walked away with the victory. Latched on a long punt from 'keeper Zaiful Nizam, national striker Qiu Li took his chance well to lob in a volley from

Coach Stange:"More confidence to play passing and dominating football" (edited)

Coach Stange (right) preaches "passing" game The Singapore national football team begun their preparation for the crucial AFC Asian Cup qualifiers against Oman this evening at the Jalan Besar Stadium. From today onwards, the Lions will come together for the preparation training before the centralized training begins on the 10th of August. Other than those being involved in their club duties, most of the 23 players reported to the session led by coach Bernd Stange with the late omission of Tampines Rovers defender Shaiful Esah who is replaced by Warriors FC's Zulfadli Zainal Abidin due to an injury sustained on his right knee cartilage (according to the FAS media release). Players involved in last night's "Uniform Derby" did part of their recovery Players are responding well in the training Much of the training emphasized on the passing game the ex-Iraq national coach trying to preach to his team and the German coach is pleased that t

Out of Wilderness as Fadhil is named in Coach Stange's Oman plan

(This entry is formulated based on the media release issued by the Football Association of Singapore ) Prayers answered - Fadhil is named in Stange's squad To be officially named in National Team Head Coach Bernd Stange's first competitive match against Oman in the upcoming AFC Asian Cup qualifiers, should bring some smiles to Hougang United's custodian Fadhil Salim, following that painful quarter-final exit from the Singapore Cup last Friday against Balestier Khalsa. Long touted to be a national team material by the Hougang supporters, the calling up of the 30-year-old custodian would be a much-needed cheer for the Cheetahs who are experiencing a poor campaign so far. However, the former Gombak United 'keeper knows that it will be a tough battle with the competition from Lions XII's Izwan Mahbud and Hassan Sunny of Warriors fighting for the right to stand in between the sticks on 14th of August. Balestier's Qiu Li is eager to prove his critics wr

[RHB Singapore Cup] With the emerging of "Final Four", it's 25% of the Cup leaving the Republic..

BALESTIER CLAIMED FIRST BERTH OF CUP 'FINAL FOUR' "Football is so unpredictable and never to speak too soon" said Balestier Khalsa assistant coach Kevin Wee who was delegated to speak to the media after the comeback win that saw Balestier Khalsa clinched the first berth of the Singapore Cup "Final Four". Kim Minho's (center) goal levelled to force extra time Indeed, the Tigers came back from a two-goal deficit to draw level in the second half of the returning fixture at home and triggered a PK decider to knock Hougang Utd out of the tournament. Credit to the hosts for a spirited second half display taking advantage after Cheetahs lost their shape following a Qiu Li strike to make it 2-1 on aggregate before Kim Minho levelled the scores moments later. Balestier Khalsa 2-2 Hougang United on aggregate (Balestier beat Hougang 4-1 on penalties) DPMM OUT OF THE CUP IN THE END... I do hope it wasn't a scrappy affair like the first leg when I
