Pre-season media conference - Sengkang Punggol

The main men in the Dolphins administrative set-up (Pictured above L-R): Team manager Mr Bruce Tan, Assistant General Manager Mr Edwin Tan and Head Coach Aide Iskandar . It's not very often clubs address issues pertaining their finances in their pre-season media conference, but Sengkang Punggol's assistant general manager Mr Edwin Tan buckled that trend by proclaimed the Dolphins hope to achieve the financial sustainability in "six months time". The press-conference was held at the Hougang Stadium - the home ground of Sengkang Punggol. While not going into much details, Mr Tan believes with the vision of a forward-looking club committee, that took over the running of the Hougang-based club during mid last year, Sengkang can achieve not only its financial ambitions and also that of improving their league standings. Head coach Aide Iskandar in his address to the media outlines the target of the club. "We're targetting a mid-table positioning." said the

3rd time lucky....

I would consider myself a SAFFC's jinx if they couldn't beat Sengkang Punggol at Jalan Besar Stadium just now, as I was in person to see their last two matches (against Gombak United and Super Reds),which they played below expectation, that would have allowed them to pop open the champagne. So third time lucky for the Warriors with their victory over the Dolphins at Jalan Besar Stadium, thus sealed their fourth consecutive league title and another shot to next year's ACL tournament. SOME PICTURES FROM THE MATCH SAFFC's John Wilkinson (10) and Abdoulaye Diallo (15) in an aerial duel. Sengkang defending a corner in second-half Lloyd Butler (37) made his late appearance in the match. SAFFC's coach Richard Bok (above) said his team wholeheartedly focused their mind on this game, barring any thought of DPMM's fate that would have decided their title quest before the kick-off. Shortly after that upset at Hougang Stadium....

... where a fired-up Sengkang Punggol defeated the newly-crowned League Cup champions, Brunei DPMM 2-1, coaches of both sides shared their thoughts with the media after the match. Sengkang Punggol's caretaker coach Aide Iskandar's comment after the game. http://www.mediafire.com/file/wykwz4yqnnm/Aide-after-SKP2-1-win-over-DPMM.mp3 The former national skipper believed that his team had "learned from their mistakes after the matches against Tampines and Super Reds" and shows his appreciation to another former national captain Fandi Ahmad for the advice rendered during his team preparation since taking charge the Dolphins. DPMM's coach Vjeran Simunic's thoughts of the game. http://www.mediafire.com/file/4noonyjo5yd/Simunic-after-losing sengkang-2-1.mp3 The Croation coach was duly waiting us outside the dressing room after we had our session with Aide. Coach Simunic admitted that missing of his several key players, fatigue were some of the reasons behind their def

Come Clear and Balance it!!

Two news broke out today which had been circulated around the fraternity lately. (Picture from "Today") "Where are you, Bryan?" Young Australian striker Bryan Soane had left Balestier Khalsa over contractural dispute, while management reshuffling took place in Sengkang Punggol saw coach Jorg Steinnebrunner and chairman Ben Lim walked out of the club. Based on both stories by TODAY, the details seems to be one-sided as public were only given one half of the stories, while scratching their scalp why the other half, being the concerned parties, were not being quoted or giving their side of the stories. (Picture from "Today") "Where are you, Jorg?" I was told efforts were made to get into contact with the gentlemen but with not much success. Apparently, the gentlemen felt it's not time to spill the beans or they just simply don't want to dwell on it? Whatever it may be, I felt the fans have every right to know the inside out of both stories r

watchin' a game in a 33-degree climate

Just wondering how it was to catch a game in a 33-degree climate? Anyway, it wasn't that HOT after all as I was under-sheltered at the Jalan Besar Stadium for the Prime League fixture between Sengkang Punggol and the national-U18. The final score: National U18 1-5 Sengkang Punggol. PICTURES FROM THE MATCH "Plenty of fluid to stay hydrate" "Alright, skippers, the usual stuff - Fair Play" Sengkang's corner in the first half Some close-up action shots from where I sat during the game Sengkang's custodian-cum-skipper Amos Boon in action.

Shell-shocked is too nice a word (aftermath the 7-1 game)-(edited)

The SMS update!! Shell-shocked is too nice a word to describe last night 7-1 demolition of Sengkang Punggol by a revitalized SAFFC. I still struggling to come to term why the Dolphins, after yet another promising pre-season hype up, failed to deliver? Not reacting to that "shell-shocker" but because of the network jam last night (Picture credit: Mr Gan Meng Yeow of Kallangroar.com). Quality players being signed (the national team skipper, a national team defender, some seasoned players and a group of foreigners who impressed in the pre-season friendlies) and a revamped backroom staff are in place, so what happened? Credit to Sengkang for holding the defending champions up till to almost 30 minutes before the floodgates opened, did had their fair share of chances with Indra Sahdan, Murphy Wiredu el at making their presence felt in the Warriors' box. But with backline comprised likes of Daniel Bennett and Kenji Arai, both whom struggled against J-League champions Kashima An

Testing the new surface....

View of the new playing surface from the top-tier of the Jalan Besar Stadium. Sengkang Punggol - the "team of the moment" (at this point of time) posed for this pre-match shot Close-up action of the match, near the tunnel. Anything could have happened from this corner. The Bulls' cheerleaders in action. I hope things will improve as the season progress, and for the benefit of doubts that this match failed to inspire a lot of the folks at JBS and at home because of "first match jittery". But don't leave it too late and blame everything on luck or whatsoever as we, the fans, aren't that naive to buy those excuses anymore.

CONFIRMED and well done, alternative

So based on the screen-shot above, I guess more or less the issue is settled with national skipper Indra Sahdan Daud joining Sengkang Punggol on a year-deal. A check on the online editions of " TODAY " and "The Straits Times" to check if they got the news and also whether had Indra quit the police force in order to sign for the Dolphins but unable to source for any sign of it. Already since yesterday, the guys at " Kallangroar " had been speculating this "news of the year" however since there's NO confirmation out from the official source or the mainstream media, everybody seems to be holding back themselves. However, I felt sometimes it's not necessary to wait for the "official" announcement or the mainstreamers to confirm everything, if the "alternate" media had the words and the fact first, way beforehand other did, by all means - break it!! Which is why effort by the guys behind " Fish out of Water " sh

Friendly: Sengkang Punggol 2-1 Home United

Was at Hougang Stadium just now to check the team everybody is talking about - Sengkang Punggol FC. Having been the whipping boys for the past few seasons, the Hougang-based team decided that it's time to ditch aside that tag and prove everyone they are capable to show the rest what they can do. PICTURES FROM THE MATCH "You brought over the ritual as well, eh.." I joked with Jörg Steinebrunner, the Sengkang coach about this "gather around" ritual (as depicted above) we seen at Woodlands when Jörg was in charge. "OK guys, make sure you're properly attired even this is only friendly" as the match officials briefed the players before the start. "No photo, please!!" joked Peres De Oliveira (second from the left), while taking the photo, with Fadzuhasny Juraimi (on Peres's right), Itimi Dickson (on his left) and captain S Subramani (on the extreme right.) Former teammates at club and national level, S Subramani won the coin-toss and the ki

Thank you, Sengkang...

For making the title race hitting the climax like last year. Following another 3-0 loss, this time to Home United, Sengkang Punggol have effectively see themselves as a "stepping stone" for teams challenging for the title (although SAFFC had theirs on 5th Sept when they beat the Dolphins by a solitary goal) after they lost to Super Reds on the same margin last friday. Ok lah Coach Swandi ... you are forgiven...

what happened?

Looks like EPL isn't the only place we see coaches' resignations (ie: Keegan left Newcastle, Curbishley left West Ham) lately. Saswadimata Dasuki quit Sengkang as well with the question going on everybody's mind is - what's actually happened after both sides given their side of the story?

some thoughts after the batte of "disappointed"

Shot from the media desk I'm not sure should whosoever be responsible for making whosoever to believe that whosoever was meant to be that good? Confusing, eh?? Well, that was not what I meant to do but having came back from Bedok Stadium, where I saw Geylang United beat Sengkang Punggol 2-0, that thought just came to me. Prior the start of the season, both teams went through a major overhaul in their team list, by having some so-called decent players signed by both teams, to an extend the Eagles were even touted to be title-contender and Sengkang was geared up for the big time. But in the end, what do we have? Save for their last three outing, Geylang failed to live up to their promise and Sengkang hold the title of having scoring the least number of goals as the season concluded the first-third of the campaign.

Simply out of luck.. Dolphins

Waiting for the arrival of the Guest of Honour I'm sure those who saw Sengkang Punggol's road to the pre-season SingTel League Cup would agree that their luck simply ran out when and where it mattered the most - the FINAL. Who would blame them for beaming that confident smile when they were up against the northern powerhouse - Woodlands Wellington. Alas, things went according to the script, and handed the Rams their deserving first major trophy win since the league started in 1996. The crowds at the ground anticipated an epic, which was not the case Formality before the start of the game - shaking hands Woodlands finally clinched their first major trophy, before the start of the season
