[Feature] The man in the middle...

0 view(s)
You know being the referee and linesman is always the unappreciative job in football, as through the snaps of below, we came to realize it's a tough assignment indeed.

LEADING THE PLAYERS OUT...

The day in office begins when the men in the middle lead his fellow officials and the teams out from the tunnel to the field.

THE CUSTOMARY PLEASANTRIES...

Next of course is to ensure both teams having the pre-match pleasantries (hand-shaking) with each individual player before the kick-off

COIN-TOSS ...

The coin tossing is the important part of the game (of course) to decide who will be kick off the match and also remind the both skippers the importance of fair play and stick to the rules.

CONSTANT REMINDER...

It's importance to communicate constantly to the players throughout the 90 minutes to keep the players within the boundary.

STAY FIRM AND CALM...

At times, players may have some issues and grievances but the referee's stand must be calm and focused.

AS FOURTH OFFICIAL ...

Being the fourth official is not as simple as it's looks, as he must also ensure the order of the benches as well and other essentials.

TAKE CONTROL OF THE SITUATION...

Tempers tend to flare when things get hot up on the field, so the referee must act fast to defuse the whole situation in the shortest space of time...

END OF THE DAY...

The blow of the final whistle is pretty significant as it defines the winners, losers or sharing the spoils but not without the post-match pleasantries (of course)...

HAVE A SMILE ON YOUR FACE...

Like what top referee Abdul Malik shown in the picture above, always wear the million-dollar smile on your face as it's helps :)

[Feature] Hanafi joins the rank of C Ron and ready to shine in the Lion City Cup

0 view(s)
(This entry is formulated based on and partly extracted from the press release issued by and pictures credited to Integrated Marketing Solutions Group [IMSG] - the PR agency for Nike Singapore)

With the 23rd Lion City Cup scheduled to kick off in less than a month away, it's not doubt that again that Hanafi Akbar (pictured below) and the rest of the National U-16 team will be carrying the hope of the country to repeat that kind of performance that captured the heart of the nation last August.

In a timely boast that came before the Little Cubs who are due to face the likes of their peers from the renowned clubs such as Juventus, Flamengo in June, the national team apparel sponsors Nike had named the 16 year-old, alongside with skipper Jeffrey Lightfoot and midfielder Ammirul Emmran, as one of their brand ambassadors in Singapore.

“I’ve never dreamt of getting this sponsorship. When I first found out about it, I was shocked, speechless and delighted. Nike first called my dad, and my dad was the one who broke the good news to me.” said Hanafi as he recalled the moment when he first came to know the news.

According to Nike, the striker will get to wear Nike’s Mercurial Superfly III (as wore by Hanafi in the picture below), the same boots worn by the world’s top players such as Cristiano Ronaldo.

“It’s an honour, I really like his style of play, as he is a very fast player.” said the secondary four student of the Portuguese superstar.

“It’s comfortable, lightweight and helps me to accelerate faster. I can run off the ball faster as the boots are light enough. Quick dribbling and speed are very important qualities of my game as a striker, so it helps to have the lightweight boots.” he added as he revealed the qualities of the boots that he will be wearing of that same of the Real Madrid's hitman.

Since entering partnership with the Football Association of Singapore (FAS) in November 2006, Nike has committed in supporting and developing young local football talent through various initiatives such as last year’s campaign The Chance.

Said Nike on sponsoring the trio:“We have identified Jeffrey, Hanafi and Ammirul as three of Singapore’s brightest young football talents at the moment and would like to help them develop and improve their game.”

“Specific product needs of the players based on their positions and playing styles had been identified, and we will be providing them with the best products that we have to enhance their play on the field.” on the commitments shown by sporting goods giants to the triumvirate.

It was understood that the idea of signing them came about after the YOG and the progress of the boys had been closely monitored since before finalised the deal recently.

“I’ve been using Nike for four years and, and before this (endorsement deal) my family used to buy boots for me, and now they are happy that they can save a lot of money!”said the boy who first kick a football at the age of five and pointed to his father as his “biggest inspiration”.

“Since young, we have always spent a lot of time playing and watching football together. He was the first person in my life to tell me I have potential for football.

”And that gave me the confidence and belief in myself to pursue my dream. He bought me my first pair when I was six. We have always played football together since I was young.” revealed the Singapore Sports School student on how the game has been a crucial bonding factor between them.

Inevitably, beside the donning the national colours in weeks to come, Hanafi admits that it's also a big challenge at the same time to cope with the GCE “N” Levels examinations he is due to sit for in months to come.

Despite the punishing schedule to see him having to juggle his books and training, Hanafi felt it's sacrifice worth the effort even at the expenses of that of his social life.

“After YOG (last year), it was quite difficult as I had to spend a lot of time catching up on my studies. My teachers helped me greatly by giving me extra lessons for three hours every day after school.

“Sometimes you have to sacrifice your social life for training. When my friends ask me to join them for movies or go to the arcade, I can’t because of training, but it’s a sacrifice that is worth making for my dream.”

Which is probably the reason why the lanky striker is often spot playing street football (pictured above) with his primary school mates in his neighbourhood and catching with friends on Facebook whenever time permits to make up for the lost opportunities.

Those making up sessions will certainly look set to take place after the end of June with Hanafi and his team-mates are currently undergoing intensive training under new Japanese coach Takuma Koga in preparation for the Lion City Cup.

“Coach (Koga) focuses a lot on defence. He always says that to attack, you first have to defend and win the ball. All of us have really been working hard on our defence as a team. Coach has also taught me about the importance of polishing up our finishing touches.” said the avid Manchester United fan of his newly-appointed mentor.

Said Hanafi on the targets he and his team set for the upcoming tournament, which saw the likes of Fandi Ahmad, V Sundramoorthy being discovered since first started in 1977: “We’ll be up against teams like Everton and Flamengo, and we feel the stress to perform well as we are older than the rest of them.

“In terms of size, they are a lot bigger than us. But who knows, anything can happen. I hope to score more goals for the team, and also assist my teammates.”he concluded.

BEST OF LUCK TO HANAFI and THE TEAM!!

P.S: I'm trying to gather some feedback on how you guys find this feature done based on the interview transcript obtained via the PR agency of Nike, thanks

[Instant Reaction] The announcement of the National Provisional Squad [EDITED]

3 view(s)
(Many thanks to a friend who Whatsapp the attached images that depicted the national provisional squad.)

The much awaited national provisional squad list was made know just a hour ago at the Jalan Besar Stadium (as pictured below).

(Pictured above) The "senior" 23 players of the provisional squad.

(Pictured above) These 10 players are classified as "NS" group which coach Raddy can select them, but subject to NS rulings.

As what I told a friend days ago that I hope that disappointment years ago when the "dazzler" V Sundramoorthy was not selected by the then national coach Vincent Subramaniam, despite the call of him to do so would not resurface this time round.

But much to the disappointment it was sad to note that Tampines Rovers ace Ahmad Latiff Khamarudin (pictured above) did not make the cut despite his stellar performance in the recent years after last featured in the red jersey in 2005.

Plenty of surprises that came along the way when Tanjong Pagar United's Delwinder Singh and Balestier Khalsa's Andrew Tan with Gombak's Ismail Yunos (who recently back in action after a lengthy injury) were being selected for squad.

(Pictured above ) Bai (second from right) and Ridhuan (extreme right) are axed from squad.

Probably the biggest surprises (if you see that way too) are the axing of notable players like those guys based in Indonesia like Baihakki Khaizan, Noh Alam Shah, Ridhuan Muhamad, Agu Casmir and Precious Emuejeraye.

In case, some of you can't have a clear view of the list of 33, here's the list from the FAS media release.

Kinda dead silence of late... (not really)

0 view(s)
... after I posted the entry of the draw of the RHB Singapore Cup.

It's not quiet actually for the past few days, rather I think everyone, just like me, is concern about the yet-to-be-released "list of 30 or 32" national provisional squad by coach Raddy (pictured below).

I'm not sure where the sources were gathered from, but here was where I got my (pictured below from "Team Singapore" FB page) which supposed to be made known by yesterday, while other claim the papers were talking about it.

However, I got in touch with FAS and they replied it wasn't the case, but did mention it could be "anytime soon".

Nonetheless, the excitement generated by this to-be-announced list just got everyone pumped up and have we not heard. read anyone voiced his/her two cents worth of opinions on this issue?

Below is a list of notable few which I managed to source around regarding the pending announcement.
It's make or break for the Singapore football now, as it's now at the lowest ebb since independence and the list to be announced will see how determined the local game governing body is serious to revamp the whole situation.

In this list, we are see if players are being "selected based on merit" and how these players are going to convince us - THEY ARE THE ONE FIT TO CLAD in RED.

Singapore Cup continues to pepper with strong regional flavour [EDITED]

2 view(s)
(This entry is formulated with extracts from the press release issued by the Football Association of Singapore)

(Pictured above) The result of the draw

Defending champions Bangkok Glass confirmed the earlier quibbles of not coming back to defend the RHB Singapore Cup they won last year, while last season's runners-up Tampines Rovers will face Geylang United in a "eastern derby" showdown.

Long time invitee - Cambodian powerhouse Phnom Penh Crown, being coached by former Balestier & Jurong import Bojan Hodak, will be facing four-time winners SAFFC in this year's campaign.

Burma's Okkthar Utd will be led by former Singapore national coach PN Sivaji, as he returns to Singapore to take on another first-time participant Pattaya United of Thailand.

Playing the tournament for the second consecutive time will be VPL side, South Melbourne (pictured above) from Australia with Albirex Niigata(S) standing their way in their quest to improve their showing.

With Courts Young Lions decided to opt out from the tournament, their counterparts from Malaysia - Harimau Muda will play in the tournament for the first time taking on Hougang United in their maiden Cup game (there goes the chance to gain revenge).

Already established itself as a tournament filled with strong regional flavour, this local premier Cup tournament had seen involvement in the past with teams like Brunei's DPMM FC, Thailand's Chonburi FC and Indonesian U23 led by former Aston Villa star Peter Withe.

The draw ceremony of this year's tournament was held earlier this afternoon at "Sports Planet" East Coast Park and graced by the presence of FAS adviser Associated Professor Ho Peng Kee (pictured above second from right).

"RHB Bank has been a passionate and dedicated partner to the FAS all these years, never wavering in their support to nurture and grow Singapore football." said A/P Ho in his address to the audience at the ceremony.

"The new $1.5 million sponsorship (for 2011-2013) is a strong affirmation of the bank’s support of local football. I am heartened that they will continue to stay with us on this journey to help local football achieve greater heights in the region.” added the former FAS president.

The preliminary round will kick off on 6th June 2011 and the finals will be held on 5th November 2011.

The de facto "ASEAN CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP"?

1 view(s)
Prior to this afternoon's draw to decide this year's RHB Singapore Cup fixtures, there were all sorts of confirmed unofficial information (as those weren't issued by the FAS) circulating around, pertaining who were the foreign sides being invited and who decided not to come.

As far as we are concern before the draw, the only confirmed official information was the decision by Courts Young Lions not to take part in this year's tournament due to conflicting schedules and fixtures, as mentioned on their website.

Other than that, I gathered from social media platforms that defending champions Bangkok Glass (pictured below - last year after their win at JBS) would not return to defend their title because of their priority to concentrate on their domestic campaign.

However, the main point of the entry is given the sizable foreign presence in local premier Cup tournament, is it still appropriate to call the "SINGAPORE CUP"?

All the while, the organizers have maintain the essentiality of having such foreign element to lift the standard of the tournamen and expose the local sides to different style of play by playing against these invitees.

With Bangkok Glass unprecedentedly being the first invited side to win the Cup last year, it somewhere might have change the way how we opined this tournament.

It's not secret that all along the FAS are clamouring the setting up of ASEAN club championship (please feedback to me if I'm wrong), perhaps with the Singapore Cup continue in this direction, it could be just a matter of time the organizers might consider to upgrade this tournament to a regional tournament that would be beneficiary in fostering good relationship among our neighbouring countries using football?

Sinking lower...

0 view(s)
(P.S: What 'thing' some may asked, but for those follow this blog long enough should know what "that thing" I referred in the following entry, as I promised never to mention the word in reference to "that thing" on cyberspace.)

Aren't we all not disappointed when The New Paper broke the shattering findings by FIFA that named Singapore as the hub of "that thing" (pictured above).

Anyway, it seems that our football had sunk to a lower low with such allegation in a time when we are still trying hard to clear the existing debris and now found ourselves in a deeper depth of the piling up of the mud.

In response to that FIFA allegation, a FAS statement issued to an media enquiry last week affirmed their stand on curbing this cancer.

"The fact remains that Singapore has been effective in addressing match-fixing and that these undesirable elements are going elsewhere to ply their trade." reads the statement published in Mediacorp's TODAY newspapers.

"Our sponsors and partners are also supportive of the robust measures that have been adopted by Singapore, coupled with FAS being acknowledged by the AFC (Asian Football Confederation) and FIFA for being the leading member association in effectively tackling this cancer, is positive for the business and football development of our game." concluded the statement in its usual pacifist tone .

Already, the fans' blog of the defending champions, Etoile FC - "Etoile FC Fans" queried in their recent posting that if adequate protection is given to those in need, especially there were reports of case of some players had fallen into financial hardship that would make them "prime target"to "that thing".

(Pictured above) The key now is to keep those fans who are still having faith in the league before losing them in uncertainty like now.

At the end of the day, whatever things said in the past to remedy the woes were already said, now it's time to press for the need to turbo-speed up the process to rid the problems that are already entrenched into the system, which I do admit that it's so difficult nowadays to convince common folks out there to fork out $5 to come down when such allegation took place.

Maybe, as a tongue-in-cheek, my follow blogger Haresh Deol in his "Foul!" blog, sums it up with this one-liner of his "And people claim Singapore is clean? (sic)" at the end of his entry on the FIFA findings.

So malu (embarrassing)... isn't it?

Remember this number 1800 - 376 0000 (CPIB), should you feel there's strong evidence of "that thing" taken place.

This is NOT the way to win Elections

2 view(s)

With the ongoing election campaigning, it's inevitable to see some fault findings taking place between contesting parties

But as far as i concern, football and politics should never mixed (even though, we have had several political office holders helm the top post of local game governing body).

Which it why when I saw the tweet (pictured above) that quoted a candidate's remark that I thought it was something uncalled for.

With much due respect to the quoted candidate, I regret the fact that the aborted "GOAL 2010" blueprint that projected to see Singapore in last year's World Cup was used as a "easy target board" to question certain government policies.

I'm not sure how and what had the quoted candidate contributed throughout the cause of the aborted project, but merely making use of football for political gains is something uncalled for.

Stop ballyhooing for votes using the game and leave football alone, thank you.

Restore to normalcy

0 view(s)
(The entry is formulated from the media Information from the Football Association of Singapore)

Following is the revised fixture list for the upcoming S.League following the conclusion of the general election.

Day Date Home Team Away Team Venue Re-Location / Remark
Mon 9-May Courts Young Lions Geylang United FC Jalan Besar Jalan Besar (Reverse Fixture - 10 Aug 2011 played at Bedok Stadium)
Tue 10-May Albirex Niigata FC (S) Woodlands Wellington FC Jurong East Jalan Besar
Wed 11-May Tanjong Pagar United FC Singapore Armed Forces FC Clementi Jalan Besar
Thu 12-May Gombak United FC Home United FC Jurong West Jalan Besar
Fri 13-May Balestier Khalsa FC Etoile FC Jalan Besar No Changes
Sat 14-May Courts Young Lions Woodlands Wellington FC Jalan Besar No Changes
Sun 15-May Tampines Rovers FC Albirex Niigata FC (S) Tampines No Changes

Except for matches to be held from the 13th May to 15th May, all matches for the coming week 13th will be played at the Jalan Besar Stadium with Courts Young Lions be facing Geylang United on 9th May.

Interesting fact is the Young Lions had their best showing this season against the Eagles in front of Pele and Cantona (pictured above).

While not so much for Balestier Khalsa would want to return to the ground along Horne Road for having suffered crashing defeats back to back to Tampines Rovers and Home United in space of five days, but their unchanged fixture against defending champions Etoile FC will be the test of character to see if the wounded Tigers can bounce back in recent poor run of late.

And almost claiming JBS as their "home ground" by coach Steven Tan, Tampines Rovers (pictured above) will be having for their first home in weeks at Tampines Stadium when they take on Albirex Niigata (Singapore) following their cruncher match at Bangkok vs Muangthong United in their continental campaign.

The move is necessary...

0 view(s)
Few hours ago, I posted a message on "twitter", my FACEBOOK wall and the blog's FB wall that read

"Major announcement to be made pertaining some restructuring of "BoLASEPaKO.com" setup, stay tuned"

It's not this blog is searching for a new writer as suggested by a friend, nor it was closing down or being bought over by someone (wish it was the case though).

Rather, it is more of some changes that are going to be implemented which I think are deemed necessary to ensure this blog to be more accessible to more visitors.

THE ANNOUNCEMENT...
As on this day-4th May 2011 (Singapore time), the blog FACEBOOK GROUP (hereby call the "GROUP") will cease and migrate its entire operating to a FACEBOOK PAGE ("PAGE") format (pictured below).

The main reason for such migration to be taken place is after exhausted its mean to remedy the problem that denied some users (included yours truly) to access the GROUP via their mobile gadget (ie: iPhone) following frequent software upgrading taken place in the relevant FACEBOOK application.

Following much consideration, I decided to set up the PAGE from scratch to ensure the continuity of the operating of that used to function in the GROUP.

To ensure the seamless migration to the PAGE, you may wish to click on the "LIKE" button of the PAGE's widget located on the right-sided menu of the blog OR you may access the PAGE directly at HERE to click the "LIKE" button

STEPS TO ACCESS THE "PAGE" FROM IPHONE or SIMILAR GADGET
As mentioned, the reason for such move is to allow visitors and existing members alike to access the PAGE via their mobile device to allow them to post their thoughts and comments while on the move.

As such I "print-screen" the following screen-grabs (based on iPhone settings) which I hope would help users during this transitional period.

First, type the word "bolasepako.com" in the search box and the PAGE should appear (as pictured above). Following that click on that PAGE and you should be diverted to the screen-grab pictured below.

Next, click on the "arrow icon" placed on the top right corner of the screen and you should see what was depicted above "Add Favorite" (pointed by yellow arrow) and upon click onto it, the icon of BOCAP will appear on your FACEBOOK app face.

CONCLUSION
The purpose of the GROUP and now the PAGE, is to serve as discussion forum for like-minded Singapore football lovers to interact their opinions on anything pertaining local football and it has been an important source for the blogging material, as well as the gauge of ground sentiments towards the developing of the game in Singapore.

Such that this kind of self-renewal is deemed necessary to avoid the stagnancy in the progression of this blog.

I'm sincerely apologize if any inconvenience was caused during the transition period and plead for everyone's kind understanding that such move is essential.

PLEASE TAKE NOTE OF THE URL OF THE "PAGE" (as listed below)

http://www.facebook.com/bolasepako

Thank you for your support all these year and looking forward to strengthening this bond.
