Interesting Stats.....and probably unknown fact

Did you know the following stats and fact?

  • Prolific strikers in Singapore football history such as Quah Kim Song, Fandi Ahmad, V Sundramoorthy (pictured above) NEVER scored a penalty throughout their international career.

  • Quah Kim Song (pictured above) only scored NINE times in his 69 appearances for the national team that begun in 7th August 1971 (vs Burma) and won his last cap in 17th April 1981 against Malaysia in the Ovaltine Cup. He only came in as a sub ONCE when facing Burma in the 1975's SEAP Games while started in every game he played.

  • 2008's Referee of the Year, T Aravinthan (above, the only picture I have of him) was capped ONCE in 1992 when he fielded as a sub against Myanmar in an international friendly on 25th November 1992 (honestly, I don't believe that in the first place!)

  • Fandi Ahmad (picture taken during the SOS Cup 09) is currently the top-scorer in the national team history (54 goals), while second on the list is Arema Malang's Noh Alam Shah (and still on-going).

  • Former national team skippers - Samad Allapitchay (above left) and Au-Yeong Pak Kuan (above right) are the only two defenders in the history of the national team to hit double-digit with their goals.

  • In front of 5,000 fans on 31st August 1965, the newly-independent Singapore lost to visiting India with Lee Wah Chin scored the nation's first international goal in the FIRST minute in their very first international match!
